Grinding ice by Filat Grinding ice by Filat
Kind of a sketch. I am not satisfied with the figures and ice, and everything, but i think i captured the atmosphere right.

Oh, it's Turgon and Idril.

How much would you charge for an image like this and how long would it take to complete?

Ah, that looks like the crossing of the Helcaraxe. What a dreadful part of the book. Oh well, but then, with Finwe's death everything went down the drain... :(

I love how you've captured such emotion in Turgon with out even showing his face, just through his posture. You've done such a good job on the lighting, I like how the ice stands out against the darkness, and how Idril's hair shines. Adding to favourites! :D

Wouldnt Idril have been a small child when they crossed?

Well, you will not find any mentioning of how old was she in Silm or HoME. But we know that "Eldar would beget children only in days of happiness and peace if they could", so we can suppose that Idril was born before or in yearly ages of the unrest of the noldor, and was of course very young in times of the Flihgt, but surely not a child.

Mmm, that's true, just used to seeing her portrayed as a child.

This is really lovely. The ice is very realistic. Funny, I never pictured Idril being that old when it took place. I always thought she'd be a child at the time.

The ice might need a little work like you said, but the atmosphere is spot on. I like the way you portrayed Turgon, and Idril, who is recognizable because of her hair but looks obviously weakened. Her plight along with Turgon's care and worried are how I imagined it would have been =)

It would be better if I managed to render not only dark, but coldness as well. Next time I'll try :)

Lovely! The colors along with the rigid lines of the ice really amplify the darkness and trouble.

How dangerous Helcaraxe must have been. You are walking and suddenly the ice cracks and you fall in the icy water.
Is that what happened here? Idril fell, Turgon rescued her and the person in the far left is bringing a blanket to cover them?
Very good atmosphere indeed:)

Idril and Elenwe fell, but Turgon could rescue only Idril.

I love this! Is Idril being revived, or comforted?
Maybe some ice crystals on the clothes and mist as they breathe in the icy air, but apart from that, I agree you captured the chilly atmosphere. ^_^

Both. It's just after he rescued Idril, but could not help Elenwe.
You are right about ice and mist, i some more details that would make it look more realistic...
